Toy Fair 2012 Day 2: Old Familiar Faces
Tuesday, February 14. 2012
As usual, I like to visit certain companies every year - companies who I feel offer some great products for kids and adults alike.Dano2, makers of Ducki and other high-quality infant & toddler toys, has made the leap into the digital world with their AppCrayon stylus and Little Sky Writers app. The app is a fun way for kids to learn their letters, and is surprisingly easy to get caught up with. Schools have responded very well to it, and it looks like Dano2 has a real winner on its hands.M2 Machines continues their line of outstanding 1/24 scale muscle cars with the 1971 Dodge Challenger, a rare item in 1/24 scale. The May Cheong group also had a few nice surprises, the biggest of which was a return of the 1/24 Muscle Machines. they had a few examples of their upcoming cars, and those who have been collecting for a few years should remember these. In their Maisto line, they announced a 2013 Viper, a Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Roadster, and a Ford Mustang Boss 302 with a paint job reminiscent of the Mistmobile from Kick Ass (perhaps another "stealth" Hollywood car, like their Highway Patrol Buick?). Bburago will be releasing a new Jaguar XKR-S, a Lamborghini Sesto Elemento, a Porsche Cayenne Turbo, a VW Polo GTI Mark 5, a VW Scirocco R, a Lotus Evora S IPS, a Lexus IS 350, a Volvo C70 (both coupe and cabriolet), a Peugeot 207, a Fiat 500 taxi, an Audi RS4, and a new series of tuners.Last but not least, Carrera had an excellent response to their 1/24 slot cars in 2011, and so will be expanding their line with several vintage racers in 2012. Among these will be the Audi R8 LMS, Ferrari 250 GT "Breadvan," Porsche GT3 RSR, Ferrari 599XX, GT-40, and most excitingly, Porsche 917K. Carrera's slot cars are truly remarkable, and I'll be taking a closer look at them in the near future - be sure to check here for detailed reviews over the next few months.
