Tip for July 2004:
Krylon Make it Suede
Interior tubs frequently have mold ejection marks in the floor, usually right in the middle of a textured area like the footwells. They're easy enough to fill & sand off, but you're left with a smooth floor where there should be carpeting. The traditional repair is to retexture the floor using flocking material, but there is another method you can use. Krylon makes a series of textured paints in 12oz. spray cans, available in most craft stores. They can be used like any regular rattle-can paint, and the "Make it Suede" finish does an excellent job of simulating scale model carpet. Just prep the surface as you would for any paint, mask off the area where you want to add the texture, and spray it on. Multiple coats will give a rougher texture, just give the paint plenty of time to dry between each coat. It dries solidly, so you won't risk damaging it by masking other parts of your interior later on, and the "stock" colors won't be a problem because you can paint over it without damaging the finish.
