Tip for May 2010:
Putty Applicators
Everyone has their own favorite putty application tool: from popsicle sticks to clay working tools to the back of an old knife blade, there seem to be as many options as there are modelers. My personal favorite is the clear plastic that is used for toy & electronic equipment packaging, water bottles, and other common items. It has nearly zero cost (since it's generally used for packaging, not product), is easily cut to shape, is rigid enough to hold putty while flexible enough to use on complex surfaces, and its transparency means you can see the area that you're puttying as you're working.
