Cool Fact
Dar Robinson's fall at the end of the movie remains the record holder for the highest free-fall stunt ever performed from a building in a commercially-released film.

Sharky's Machine was an atypical Burt Reynolds movie in that it didn't really have a cool car or good chase sequence. In fact, the only car he really drove was this Diplomat for a short scene halfway through the movie. Still, that was enough for me to add this car to my collection.

Another reason why I wanted to do this car is because I wanted to try casting some hubcaps in resin. I was pretty happy with the results, and with a little cleanup and some Bare Metal Foil my castings look right at home on a set of parts box wheels. Other modifications include a revised rear ride height, metal tape trim, some paint detail, and a rear license plate. This was never actually shown in the movie, so I made up my own: a 1981 Georgia plate "5H4 RKY."
