Mattel to produce '66 Batmobile Replica?

The following was posted at the 1966 Batmobile boards:
"The big rumor from [Mattel] is that they have the license to produce the original Batmobile from the TV series! I don't have to tell you how big this car will be. Of course we will have it! I will update you as more info becomes available. (I hope they don't send a sniper team to get me now that I told you this top secret info)."
Mattel certainly has more financial pull than model manufacturers, an established history of producing Batmobiles, and a broader market than specialty diecast companies like the Danbury Mint. However, DM got as far as taking preorders before the plug was pulled on their replica: let's not count this as a real possibility until official word as come from Mattel (or safer yet, not until the cars have started showing up in stores).
