Underneath the Mango Tree

Although not as iconic as the Aston Martin or Lotus Esprit, the little Sunbeam driven in Dr. No set the stage for future Bond chases thanks to its quickness, agility, and classic European design. Unfortunately there are no 1/24 models of the Alpine, but thanks to AMT's Get Smart Tiger and some minor alterations, I was able to get pretty close.

More Villains! More Women! More Action! More Bond!

Probably the biggest problem I have as a builder is getting over my own procrastination. I'll get stuck on the anticipation of doing a particularly involved bit of custom work, and the whole project will stall until I force myself to do it (usually to discover that the task wasn't nearly as difficult as I thought it would be). Case in point: as I was building the truck used in From Russia with Love, it got put on hold no fewer than four times. First, I got stuck on modifying the hood from the kit's 1960 style to the movie's 1961 style. Next, I had to talk myself into redoing the chassis to the movie-accurate wheelbase. Then, everything sat for weeks while I worked out how to create the cargo box. Finally, it sat for several more weeks as I worked up filling said cargo box with flowers. Once I actually started working, the longest task took no more than a couple of hours...it was just the buildup that stretched this project across the better part of a year. If I could get myself to stop thinking and start building, I'd probably double my model output.
