Way back when I reviewed Welly's DeLorean, I had bought it because it was a cool diecast rather than as a starting point for some project. After all, outside of Back to the Future and its myriad sequels, spin-offs, parodies, and homages, there aren't a whole lot of starring roles for the DMC-12. But after having it a while, I decided I wanted to change things up a bit...and if I was going to be doing a cameo/background car anyway, I figured I'd make it the one from The Wedding Singer. It was actually featured in the trailer for the movie, putting it one up on most others, plus it had the quintessential '80s car decoration: a sticker stripe down the side that included the name of the car.

Said stripe was straightforward enough: I found the appropriate vintage advertising, recreated it in Illustrator, and sized it to fit its 1/24 counterpart. While I was drawing that up, I also made a rear vanity plate - never shown in the movie, but it seemed appropriate.

Lastly, I took the opportunity to correct something that always bugged me about Welly's DeLoreans: the lack of side windows. There was a spare glass part from Polar Lights' BTTF Time Machine in my parts box, which looked to be pretty close to the diecast. I made a template of one window opening on a piece of masking tape, transferred that to the glass, and cut it out with a razor saw. Final sizing was done with sanding sticks, contastly test fitting it against the opening to ensure a correct fit. I then repeated the process for the other side, and glued in both windows with Tacky Glue. The sideview mirrors are more than strong enough to use to open the doors, so the car still retains full functionality but looks much better now.
