This build was prompted, in part, by hearing from a few builders expressing frustration with Revell's '68/9 Charger kit. Some were new to modeling, others were returning after a hiatus, but more than one said how they rage quit the build at one point or another. So, in light of the many Chargers I've built and having learned how to work around the shortcomings of the kit, I did my first in-depth, step-by-step video series detailing the build.

Since the goal was to show how the kit goes together, rather than how to do a bunch of kitbashing and custom work, I stuck to box stock as much as possible. Only a few minor alterations had been made to the car used in the video for "The Outsider," and most of those were available in the '68 "Hemified" repop of the kit, so it was a near-perfect candidate.

The biggest change was to the wheels and suspension, where I used the rear spring blocks and wheels out of the '68. Unfortunately the only tire options were stock or slicks, so I did raid the parts box for a set of rears. Beyond that, the only changes I made were sanding off the vinyl top texture and using a set of parts box mirrors.

Paint was a basic application of Tamiya sprays, with trim done using BMF, Molotow, and paint. The final detail was a set of license plates, the front one made to match the video and the rear (which we never got to see) being the title of the song on a contemporary California tag.
