After the General, Daisy's Jeep, and the various county police cars, it was time to move onto some secondary vehicles. First up was Daisy's '74 Road Runner, based on AMT's ye olde tooling.

The kit is really showing its age with soft casting, rough parts, lots of flash, and a few flat-out mistakes. The biggest problem with my particular release is that I had the mid-2000s repop with the Monaco dashboard. Fortunately, Harts Parts Resin makes a correct replacement that dropped in with just a little trimming. I painted it black with the same woodgrain technique I used for the Vanishing Point Challenger.

Thanks to the very basic chassis, my choices were either "fix everything with an extensive kitbash" or "eh, close enough." I chose the latter, painting the pan flat black with a metallic silver exhaust but making no corrections or adding extra details. I then added wheels from Revell's Dodge Charger with parts box tires and hand-painted lettering.

I painted the engine Chrysler Blue, replacing the badly formed distributor and radiator hose but otherwise making no changes. Even though it was pretty simple, it built up nice enough to look decent once complete.

The body was, like the rest of the kit, fine. Not brilliant, not trash. It needed a fair amount of cleaning, from parting seams to sink marks to flash. Once these were addressed, I painted it Tamiya yellow and added stripes from Bugsy's Junkers. Most of the chrome was OK, but still needed some work. I started by drilling out the headlights and adding lenses from my parts box. The front bumper had some pretty rough parting lines, so I sanded them smooth and refinished it with Bare Metal Foil. BMF was also used for the window trim and door handles. The last detail was a set of screen-accurate license plates.
