Usually, when I modify a diecast, the first thing I do is take it apart and strip off the factory-applied paint. But Bburago painted their 405 T-16 a nice bright white that looked surprisingly good with just a good wash and some light sanding. So I left that as the base color, gave it a quick shot of white primer to even the few areas I had to work on, and then painted it Tamiya TS-21 Gold. The stripes and door cards were masked off, and it was then painted TS-98 and clearcoated. The one-piece bottom tray made up both the chassis and bumper cover, so it had to be masked off and sprayed multiple times to give it the appropriate colors. The interior was painted a combination of black and flat red, yellow was used for the rear spoiler, and various blues were used for the driving lights, side windows, and other small details.

To recreate the rear window louvers, I cut out the glass panel and made a new one from Evergreen clapboard siding. The only other physical change was to the wheels, which were replaced with a set from an old Corvette promo. While they were a crude attempt at the Corvette's turbine design, they were nearly perfect for the slotted wheels used by the Transformer.

Aside from the gold striping, the graphics were all done as decals I drew up in Illustrator. A few had to be reimagined from the toy to the model, and the placement of some had to be guessed at since reference material kept coming up short, but overall I think I captured the overall look of the figure.
