Much as I enjoyed Gattaca as a film, I loved the production design even more. Production Designer Jan Roelfs and Art Directors Sarah Knowles and Natalie Richards created a fantastic retrofuturistic world of hard edges and classic cars. The most prominent of the latter was Uma Thurman's Citroën DS 19 cabriolet, and it just so happened that Welly made a very nice diecast that could fill the role in my collection.

The only real change I needed to make was the color. I stripped off the factory-applied maroon using Klean Strip's Aircraft Paint Remover. The bare metal was then wire brushed, filed to remove factory tooling marks, sanded, washed, and wiped down with Eastwood's Pre-Painting Prep. It was then painted with Tamiya's TS-17 Gloss Aluminum and polished.

Bare Metal Foil was used for the side and window trim, and a Gundam chrome marker was used for the door handles, trunk latch, and other small details. The final detail was recreating the movie's unique green headlights, done with a wide green Sharpie over the original lenses.
