For the fourth and final season of Viper, the "undercover" version of the Defender was changed from red RT/10 roadster to a blue GTS coupe. The official merchandise had long since wound down, but model companies were still cranking out kits of the then-current production models including a SnapFast Plus of the GTS from AMT/Ertl. As a direct successor to the roadster kit released as an official tie-in to the show, this made for a nice bit of continuity among the TV cars.

Assembly was very similar to the RT/10. Same chassis with same wheel/axle assemblies, and same general breakdown of interior parts, though this one was larger to accommodate the rear cargo area. The glass was different, not just by including a rear window but also by having frosted areas inside the panels to be painted black. They also changed the headlights from the dark tinted plastic filling holes in the body to clear lenses over fully detailed buckets, a very nice improvement. Less appreciated was the change from a molded-in grille crossbar to a separate piece that had to be snapped into place. Ambitious, but there's no way that this would fit seamlessly. I had to do a fair bit of filling and sanding around all four points before they looked halfway decent.

Paint was pretty straightforward, at least. The interior was painted in multiple blacks to reflect the updated GTS interior, with embossing powder added to replicate carpeting. As with the RT/10, gauges were my own decals. The body was painted Model Master GTS Blue Pearl, clearcoated with Testors One-Coat Wet Look clear, then polished and waxed. Final details were touched with black and metallic colors, chrome vinyl was added for mirror glass, and it was finished with a screen-accurate rear license plate.
