Background
Jason Lee Scott is the Red Ranger, who leads the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers to protect Earth from the wicked sorceress, Rita Repulsa.
Packaging
Packaged in Jada's 2020-style box with the graphics altered to reflect the Power Rangers theme: dark background with diagonal multicolor tech pinstripes, a portrait of the Red Ranger to the right of the main window and left end flap, a group shot of the Rangers on the right end flap, and the Power Rangers/lightning bolt logo on each panel. The back has co-sells for the Green and White Rangers. The interior panels use the same diagonal tech pinstripes as the outside, but they are now black on a white background. The GT-R is held in place with two screws, with plastic bands holding the hood, doors, and trunk closed. The Red Ranger is on a separate plastic oval mounted to the base near the front of the car.
Casting/Paint
The casting here is identical to the Fast & Furious release, but it looks like I wasn't the only one who noticed the few rough spots on that one: the ribs on the front fenders are as sharp and clean as one could want, and while there are still sprue connection points on the right skirt they have been cut much cleaner this time.
Although the casting is improved, the big "wow" factor here is the paint. Gone is the ill-covering blue, replaced wih a brilliant candy red similar to Spider-Man's Ford GT. After several experiments with these kinds of colors, Jada has perfected the technique and is now able to crank out reliable results. The gloss black and white accents are just as nice, with sharp edges and excellent coverage. The intercooler has been painted silver to create a "mouth" akin to the Rangers' helmets. Contingency sponsor logos for Tanabe (suspension/exhaust), Bride (seats), Exedy (clutches), and Endless (brakes) are printed in silver across each rocker, and a black and silver Tanabe logo is on each rear fender. A red Nissan logo is on a white band across the top of the windshield, and a stock silver Nissan badge is centered on the trunk lid. Ranger-specific graphics include a zig-zagging dinosaur mouth on the front air dam, the chest armor on the hood, and a T.Rex symbol on each door. The printing is excellent across the board, with only a tiny gap at the extreme corners where the vents meet the deck of the hood.
Most everything else is colored as before, but the shift lever and engine intakes are now bright red and the wheels are chrome instead of black.
Features/Accessories
All the panels function just as they did before. A 1/24 Red Ranger figure is also included, and is painted to match the car. It's pretty well done, though not as sharp as the car when it comes to the white areas.
Accuracy
This is not based on an existing design, but is instead a "character car" that simply uses an existing tooling with a new paint job to evoke a persona.
Overall
This absolutely looks like a car that the Red Ranger could use. The colors, the accents, the logos, everything just fits the character. Hopefully Jada can continue the theme long enough to offer up the whole team.
