Whatever You Do...Don't Fall Asleep

Long story short, the earliest promos were made of Tenite (acetate) due to its superior shatter-resistance and attractive finish. Unfortunately, they were prone to gassing out and shrinking over time, with thicker plastics being less effected than thinner plastics, and coated surfaces (such as chrome plated bumpers) being essentially immune to warping. By the early/mid 1960s, manufacturers had switched to ABS for their promos and the results are far better.
