Sucker Punch Review

The best summary I read for Sucker Punch was a snippet from Jessica Steele Allen: "It'll bomb, and that's because it wasn't made for the majority of movie-goers." That phrase sums up both the best and worst aspects of the movie, which is an artistic project above all else...and like any art project it will likely appeal to a very narrow audience. Which side of the like/dislike line you fall on is going to be a matter of personal preference far more than movie quality.

Misfile Art Auction

Chris Hazelton is doing some fundraising to help offset costs now that they have a new member of the family, so now's your chance to get a one-of-a-kind signed art piece here.

Lambatghini Countach

Even before we read the first post-Crisis meeting between Batman and Jason Todd, we got an idea that this was a different take on Jason thanks to the cover art for Batman #408. It seems that the interior and cover artists shared a script, and managed to crank out nearly identical details save one: the Batmobile itself. While the interior art used a DeTomaso Pantera, the cover featured a Lamborghini Countach instead.

HobbyLink Japan Red Cross Donation Campaign

From HobbyLink Japan:
To our customers:

In an effort to help alleviate the suffering caused by the recent Tohoku Kanto Earthquake & Tsunami disaster, we're going to donate a portion of our revenue for the next two weeks to the Japanese Red Cross.

During the campaign, we're raising prices on almost everything we sell by 2%. We'll then donate this 2% difference to the Red Cross; that's how HLJ's customers will contribute. Then HLJ will match those funds with a contribution of its own. So we'll be donating a total of 4% of our sales to the Japan Red Cross for use in the recovery efforts in the hard-hit quake zones, and we're asking our customers to shoulder half of that burden.

Since we're not giving our customers any choice about this, we fully understand raising prices, even a little, may actually drive some customers away. But we also believe that the vast majority of our customers want to help as badly as we do, and we think this is a great, simple way for them to pitch in.

For more details about this campaign, please see our donation campaign information page HERE.

The campaign ends on March 31, and we will be sending the donation amount to the Japanese Red Cross on April 1. At that time we will announce the donation amount on the HLJ website.

As always, we thank you for all of your business with us, and ask you for your understanding and support during this difficult time.

HobbyLink Japan and the Sendai Earthquake

HLJ has posted a report of the effect the Sendai quake has had on their operations, including raw video footage taken during the quake itself and a personal message from Scott T. Hards. They were lucky in that no one got hurt and their offices/warehouse suffered no structural damage, though there was quite a bit of cleanup needed. As of today they have resumed normal operations, but there will be inevitable delays thanks to road closures and planned rolling blackouts as the power grid is repaired.

Back to Bats

This model was in development for quite some time: it was partially complete when I decided to take a break from bodywork-intensive projects, and so got shelved. The hiatus did just what I hoped, and after getting back into the groove with the Mannix Toronado I was ready to get back to work on several unfinished projects. The Teen Titans Batmobile is just the first of many that I'm hoping to get finished over the next few months.
