In the wake of all the recalls this year, many parents are having trouble deciding what to get the kids this Christmas. Why not get (or recommend to others in your family) a building toy? Safe toys are available for kids of all ages—Duplo sets for 18 months - 5 year olds, LEGO sets for 4 - 16 year olds, and Plastic Kits for 10 and up—and they teach patience and instruction-following, help kids with their dexterity, and still allow for plenty of creativity.
