Bob Paeth

Although Bob Paeth may not be known to many outside of the hobby, his name is rightly held in high esteem among anyone who has put glue to plastic. He was one of the first scale model customizers, the man responsible for nearly ninety kits produced by Revell from 1963 to 1970 (often considered the Golden Age of modeling), author of over 100 articles for Model Car Science and Car Model magazines, founder of the Portland Classic Model Car Contest, and one of the founders of SABA (the Scale Auto Builders Association). Although I did not have the opportunity to meet him personally, his work was well known to all of us. Jim Haught of Scale Auto said, "The word 'icon' is overused, but I certainly think it applies here." Mr. Paeth truly was an icon, and his passing marks a sad day for all of us in this hobby.

You can read more about him and his work here.
