Most times when "Top TV Theme Song" lists get compiled, they leave out one of my all-time favorites: Mike Post and Pete Carpenter's intro to Magnum, P.I., featuring Larry Carlton on guitar. It was a near-perfect fusion of 80s action with surf rock, plus a bridge that has a laid-back vibe ideally suited to Thomas Magnum. Without a single lyric, you get that the show will be an adventure in Hawaii with a cool character.
