But the Most Important Rule...Never Feed Him After Midnight

It was a little less than eight years ago when I mentioned how my plan for a Gremlins tribute wasn't going to be Billy's VW until GreenLight released their diecast. But I had still already bought and started work on the Micro Machine when that happened, so I figured what better time to take a toy to turn into a replica of a different toy than now?

I Found a Spaceship! It's a Spaceship, Buzz!

No way could I do a year of "Toys and Games" without including the most iconic vehicle from a franchise launched by telling an actual Toy Story!

If We Don’t Finish the Job and Flatten Them - We Might As Well Not Be in the Fight at All

I've done a few G2 cars, but until now they were all Go-Bots with their Hot Wheels-inspired smooth rolling axle/wheel arrangement. I've finally added one of the larger G2 figures - in this case one of the Color Changers - and the character that I went with was...Gobots. Baby steps.

I Am Cheetara. In My Heart, I Know I'm the Strongest of My Kind

I'd probably get better at painting figures if I did more than one every year or so, but I like to think I'm still making some progress. The latest attempt, and my first try painting a fully 3D-printed figure, is the Thundercats' very own high-speed weapon Cheetara.

Don't Wrap It - She'll Drive it Home

Many years ago, I did pick up Monogram's official Barbie Silver 'Vette kit - it's where I got the decal shet I used as a starting point for this build - but being 1/24 I thought it might look awkward among the fleet of 1/25 MPC C4s already in the collection. So, another MPC kit it is!

Fishy Deals

Continuing my series of Simpsons builds with the Malibu Stacy Car, which is not only the first car almost exclusively based on the Hit & Run game but also the first car that wasn't used for the majority of its level. Kind of a shame since it's such a cool design, fortunately thanks to the way the game is set up it can be used any time on the replays.

You Think You Hate It Now, But Wait'll You Drive It

Once it became available, there was no way I was going to pass up building a Wagon Queen Family Truckster. Fortunately, since the whole point of the movie was the family getting to an amusement park, it wasn't much of a stretch to consider this among the "Toys and Games" theme for the year!

What's it Actually Feel Like, Bein' a Pred? Like You're Three Gigabytes of Attitude on a Two-gig Hard Drive.

With Rise of the Beasts coming up fast, it seemed appropriate to add to my Beast Wars ranks. So this week is a twofer, with both Cheetor and Rhinox joining the team!

Like a Ninja in the Night, I Strike Swiftly and Unseen

Simple as they were, I still really like the old flipchangers that first made their appearance in Machine Wars (the Mirage in my Transformers CHUG collection is the slightly later RobotMasters version of the mold, and - nostalgia aside - remains my favorite version of the character to date). Thanks to a new addition to the Tamiya paint lineup, I finally have a 1/24 version for my collection.

Everything's Not Awesome

I've been kind of off my game the past week or so, as happens to anyone who builds stuff on the regular. But the desire to keep creating is still there, which makes a project like this so great: in a couple of hours I can go from box to model, without having to deal with paint, glue, or ill-fitting parts. Plus, when the inevitable screwup happens, it's easy to fix.

Nothing Can Stop a Highwayman

Some twenty-odd years ago, when AMT/Ertl released their SnapFast Slammers series, I enjoyed building them enough that I picked up a couple of duplicates for future projects. One of those turned out to be real handy when I was looking for a starting point for the Fallout Highwayman.

How Strong the Steel, How Quick the Conquest

I've had Cannonball online for over 15 years, but as I said at the time he's really more of a freelancer that gets to operate in Megatron's territory. So I'm way overdue to have a true Decepticon join my ranks of 1/24 models, and that has finally been remedied with the addition of Mixmaster!

To Survive, You Drive!

I acknowledge that only a handful of people will remember Steel Monsters - hardly anyone noticed the line when it was in stores. But the '80s were truly a unique time for toys, and I enjoy digging into the history of some of these more esoteric properties.

Hunt the Truth

A couple of years ago, my build theme was "Unfinished Business" - those projects that I had started but never quite got finished. I barely scratched the surface of what I was hoping to that year, but it did cause me to rethink my method a bit. I'm trying to spend less time obsessing over the screw-ups and more time working, actually getting stuff built and done. Case in point: Revell had their Warthog on display at Toy Fair six years ago, I purchased it as soon as it came out, then spent years trying to decide what I wanted to do with it. And while the end result is no contest winner, it makes me much happier seeing it finished than it did sitting in its box.

The Fastest Miniature Cars You've Ever Seen

As a kid, I had a mix of cars from Hot Wheels, Matchbox, Tomica, Majorette, Corgi, Fast 111s, and others. But where they all hung out - the centerpiece of my play time - was the Hot Wheels Sto & Go Service Center and its sister City. So regardless of what was stamped into the bottom of the cars, they were all my "Hot Wheels." It was only a matter of time before I started building tributes to Mattel's flagship diecast line, and now the first of those has been completed with the Silhouette from their "Sweet 16".
