Background
Miles Morales first appeared in the August 2011 issue of Ultimate Fallout, following the death of Peter Parker. He is the second Spider-Man to appear in Ultimate Marvel, taking place in the Earth-1610 universe. After Marvel ended the Ultimate imprint in 2015, Miles was made a character in the Earth-616 universe and went on to appear in the Ultimate Spider-Man animated television series on Disney XD as well as Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and its sequels.
Packaging
The previous Spider-Man was released back in the older packaging, while this has been updated to the newer design. Beyond that, the only design changes were the character portrait and changing "Spider-Man and 2017 Ford GT" to "Miles Morales and 2017 Ford GT." The rest of the text and graphics remain as they were.
Casting/Paint
Great as the paint was on the previous GT, it's even better here. The gloss black is deep and nearly flawless, complimenting the dark red beautifully. The diagonal spears of color rising from the front wheels to the rear intakes further compliments the lines of the GT, and the delicate spider web graphic (inverted from the previous design) is just as sharp and clean as you could hope for. The red edge on the wheels is new, and another nice touch. There was a bit of excess plastic left on one of the taillight lenses, and a speck in the paint on the roof, but neither really detract from the overall look of the car.
Features/Accessories
The same functional panels, with the same sticky door hinge. The figure is different, though, with this one cast in a more iconic crouched pose and painted an altogether better set of matte colors. The red is nice and opaque, with sharp edges and excellent registration. Miles' eyes and the spiders on his chest and back are sculpted elements, and the paint is darn near perfectly applied despite the extremely fine work.
Accuracy
This is not based on an existing design, but is instead a "character car" that simply uses an existing tooling with a new paint job to evoke a persona. The GT is a bit big, scaling out to around 1/22.5.
Overall
Jada surprised me with the previous GT, making it better than I ever expected from the promo photos. This meets and then surpases that release, with a paint job that is at least as good and a figure that is better in both pose and paint. It is absolutely worth picking up one of these if you get he chance.
