Background
After decades of anticipation, false starts, and running jokes, Wonder Woman finally got a big-screen solo movie in 2017. As with Batman Begins some 12 years prior, the movie received a major marketing push that included sponsorship with NASCAR. Driven by Danica Patrick, the car made its debut at the Go Bowling 400 in Kansas on May 13, 2017 - three weeks before Wonder Woman's US premiere.
Packaging
The box design is identical to the 2016 version, only the graphics have been updated. The driver is no longer featured as prominently, with an image of Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman and the movie logo to the right of the window. The top of the box repeats the image next to a photo of the diecast, and a different photo (with her arms crossed) is on the back of the box along with the movie logo. the background is blue and red, with a gold band (Diana's Lasso of Truth) dividing the colors. The end flaps remain as they were, with the same colors and stickers placed in the same locations - the only changes are the large year graphic and the car details.
Casting/Paint
This is the ARC release of Patrick's Wonder Woman car, featuring opening panels but limited engine and chassis detail. The casting quality is as good as one would expect from Lionel, with tight even panel gaps and a nice smooth finish. The subtle character lines of the Fusion have been captured nicely, including some particularly excellent work at the front air dam. As usual the hood and trunk pins are separate chrome parts, the glass and trunk rail are clear plastic, the roof camera is black plastic, and the trunk hinges are unpainted metal. Standardization within NASCAR means that the chassis, engine, and interior are essentially identical to the previous releases. The engine and forward chassis plate are the biggest changes, with these parts reflecting the difference between the Chevrolet and Ford V8s.
The full-sized car was completely wrapped for the Wonder Woman promotion, and Lionel has followed suit. Other than the black rear panel and whatever is visible when a panel is opened, every bit of the surface has been covered with a full-color print. The graphics even go right across the hood, roof flaps, and trunk, so there wasn't even the possibility of using the panel breaks to help the process. Fortunately, Lionel was more than up for the task: aside from a small nick between the left headlight and the hood, the application is absolutely flawless. The graphics are bright and clean, with everything from Gadot's portrait to the Rush Truck Centers logos just ahead of the rear wheels sharply defined and completely legible.
Features/Accessories
As usual, the ARC release had an opening hood, trunk, and roof flaps. The front wheels steer and are tied to the steering wheel, and all four corners have working springs.
Accuracy
The only difference I see between this and the 1:1 is that the Coors Light contingency sponsor is missing from between Monster Energy and Lincoln Welders in the blocks behind the front wheels. This may have been to avoid any legal issues with selling the car, since things can get weird. Otherwise, everything looks good and scaling is dead-on.
Overall
Owing to the "event" that was the first Wonder Woman movie, this car sold out fast and remains in high demand even years later. Deals can be had, but be prepared to pay double or more if you want to get one.
